Full name, Robert William Barker; born December 12, 1923, in Darrington, WA; son of Byron John (a power line foreman) and Matilda Kent (maiden name, Tarleton) Barker; married Dorothy Jo Gideon, January 12, 1945 (died, October 19, 1981). Education: Drury College, B.A., economics, 1947 (summa cum laude). Religion: Protestant. Avocational Interests: Animal rights activism, karate, traveling, reading, sunbathing, golf, sports, Civil War buff.

Career: Television host, actor, and producer. Worked as news writer, announcer, and disc jockey for KTTS-FM until 1949; news editor and staff announcer at WWPG; Bob Barker Productions, Inc., president, 1966–. Military service: U.S. Navy, fighter pilot, active duty, 1943–45, reserves, 1945–60; reached rank of lieutenant junior grade; American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal.
