Grossmont College was founded in 1961. It is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It first offered distance learning courses in 1997. In fall 2004, there were 3,400 students enrolled in distance learning courses. Institutionally administered financial aid is available to distance learners.

Services Distance learners have accessibility to academic advising, bookstore, campus computer network, e-mail services, library services, tutoring.

Undergraduate— accounting and related services; allied health and medical assisting services; American literature (United States and Canadian); astronomy and astrophysics; communication and media; computer systems networking and telecommunications; criminal justice and corrections; educational/instructional media design; English composition; history; human development, family studies, and related services; political science and government.

Non-credit— teaching assistants/aides.
