Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS) Medical Student Scholarship (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To assist local students with the cost of attending a Pennsylvania medical school. Focus: Medicine. Qualif.: Applicants must be Pennsylvania residents from one of the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Washington, or Westmoreland. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.
Funds Avail.: $2,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicant must submit: completed scholarship application form; two reference letters, from persons other than family members, documenting integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a future physician (one must come from either a medical school professor or a physician); letter, on school letterhead, from the applicant's medical school verifying that he/she enrolled full time as a third or fourth-year medical student at that institution; and a typed, one-page essay addressing the following: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? How do you plan to give back to the community? Deadline: September 30.
Alliance Medical Education Scholarship Fund (AMES) (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To financially assist a deserving medical student enrolled in a Pennsylvania medical school. Focus: Medicine. Qualif.: Applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania who are enrolled in a Pennsylvania medical school as full-time second- or third-year medical students. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need, merit, leadership and service.
Funds Avail.: $2,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit: the completed application form; two reference letters from persons who know them well (other than their families); letter from their medical school verifying that they are enrolled full-time and currently second or third-year medical students; and a typed statement of one page describing their vision for the future of Pennsylvania Medicine. Deadline: January 15.
Scott A. Gunder, MD, DCMS Presidential Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To financially assist deserving second-year medical students at Penn State College of Medicine. Focus: Medicine. Qualif.: Applicants must have been residents of Pennsylvania for at least 12 months before registering as medical students; must be second-year medical students; must be enrolled full-time at Penn State College of Medicine; and must be members of Pennsylvania Medical Society and their county medical society. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.
Funds Avail.: $1,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit: completed application form; two reference letters, from persons other than family members, documenting the applicants' integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as future physicians; letter, on school letterhead, from Penn State College of Medicine verifying that they are enrolled full-time and second-year medical students; one-page typed essay describing the person or event that most influenced them to become physicians and how they see themselves leading others into medicine; and completed Pennsylvania Medical Society membership applications if students are not current members. Deadline: April 15.
Lycoming County Medical Society (LCMS) Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide financial assistance for medical students who are residents of Lycoming County. Focus: Medicine. Qualif.: Applicants must be residents of Lycoming County in the state of Pennsylvania; must be enrolled full-time in an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school within the United States. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.
Funds Avail.: $2,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit: completed application form; two reference letters, from persons other than family members, documenting the applicants' integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as future physicians; letter, on school letterhead, from applicants' medical school verifying that they are enrolled full-time as medical students at their respective institutions; and, one-page, typed essay specifically describing why they chose to become physicians and what contributions they expect to make to the health profession. Deadline: September 30.
Montgomery County Medical Society (MCMS) Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide financial assistance for medical students who are residents of Montgomery County. Focus: Medicine. Qualif.: Applicants must be residents of Montgomery County in the state of Pennsylvania; must have been Pennsylvania residents for at least 12 months prior to registering as medical students; must be enrolled full-time in an accredited United States medical school; must be enrolled or entering their first year of medical school. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.
Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; two reference letters, from persons other than family members, documenting the applicants' integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as physicians; letter, on school letterhead, from their medical schools verifying that they are enrolled full time as first-year medical students at that institution; one-page, typed essay addressing the reasons for pursuing medical career, personal goals, and plans for future within the profession. Deadline: September 30.
Myrtle Siegfried, MD and Michael Vigilante, MD Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to qualified first-year medical students residing in Berks, Lehigh, or Northampton County. Focus: Medicine. Qualif.: Applicants must be residents of Berks, Lehigh, or Northampton County; must be entering first year of medical school; must be enrolled full-time in an accredited United States medical school. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.
Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants
must submit completed application form; two reference letters documenting the applicants' integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as future physicians (letters must come from persons who know the applicants well but are not family members); letter, on school letterhead, from their medical school verifying that they are enrolled full-time at that institution and first-year medical students; one-page, typed essay specifically describing why they chose to become physicians and what contributions they expect to make to the health profession.
