ACRES Scholarships (Postgraduate, Professional Development/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to rural teachers for an opportunity to pursue education and training. Focus:

Education, Special; Special education. Qualif.: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen; currently or have been employed by a rural school district as a teacher in regular or special education; working with disabled students or with regular education students and “retooling” for work in a special education setting; pursuing to increase skills in special education or “retooling” from a regular education to a special education career. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on the selection committee's review of the application materials.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed application form; an essay describing the advantages and disadvantages of rural special education, applicant's need for the scholarship, how the scholarship will be used, and how the applicant will share the gained information with other educators; and two letters of recommendation from persons in a position to judge the applicant's capabilities as a rural special educator.
