American Astronomical Society Small Research Grants (Doctorate/Grant)
Purpose: To promote research related to astronomy. Focus: Astronomy and astronomical sciences. Qualif.: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or foreign astronomer with Ph.D. or equivalent; and must not be connected to the institution. Criteria: Recipients are evaluated based on: scientific merit, student participation, budget, other funds available for the proposed project.
Funds Avail.: $1,000-$7,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit the proposal (maximum of four pages); curriculum vitae (maximum of two pages); and a cover letter. Send four copies of the proposal and other materials to: Small Research Grant Committee, American Astronomical Society

Chretien International Research Grants (Doctorate, Professional Development/Grant)
Purpose: To promote research or projects related to astronomy. Focus: Astronomy and astronomical sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be astronomers with a PhD or equivalent. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the submitted proposals.
Funds Avail.: $20,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a description of research (maximum of three pages); a statement on the applicant's ability to finish the project; a proposed budget; description of other financial resources (if applicable); curriculum vitae and bibliography of recent papers; two reference letters from astronomers who know the applicant's work; other circumstances that might help in the selection process.
