ABF Doctoral Fellowships (Doctorate, Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To encourage original and significant research on law, the legal profession, and legal institutions. Focus: Law. Qualif.: Applicant must be a PhD candidate in social sciences; have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation; or students who will complete their dissertation prior to the beginning of the award. Research must be in the general area of socio-legal studies or in social scientific approaches to law. Dissertations must address issues in the field and show major contribution to social scientific understanding of law and legal process. Criteria: Selection is based on the submitted dissertation abstract or proposal.

Funds Avail.: $25,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a dissertation abstract or proposal; two letters of reference; a curriculum vitae; a transcript of graduate records; and a short sample of written work (optional). Law and Social Science Dissertation Fellowship and Mentoring Program (Doctorate, Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To promote education in Law and Social Sciences. Focus: Law; Social sciences. Qualif.: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and permanent resident; a third year or fourth year graduate student in the field of law and social science; a student in a PhD program in a social science department; or Humanities student pursuing a dissertation with relation to social science. Criteria: Selection is based on the application.

Funds Avail.: $25,000 and $1,500 for research and travel expenses. To Apply: Applicants must submit a 1-2 page application; a 2-3 page description of research project; a resume or curriculum vitae; a writing sample; three letters of recommendation from faculty members; and undergraduate and graduate transcripts. A complete set of application materials must be sent to Mary McClintock, Law and Society Association, University of Massachusetts, 40 Campus Center Way, Amherst, MA 01003-9244. Summer Research Diversity Fellowships in Law and Social Science (Undergraduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To promoted education in social sciences. Focus: Law; Social sciences. Qualif.: Applicant must be an American citizen and permanent resident; an African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Puerto Rican, or individuals who will add diversity to the field of law and social science; a sophomore or junior student who have not yet received a degree; have a GPA of 3.0; and pursuing an academic major in the social sciences. Criteria: Selection is based on the application materials.

Funds Avail.: $3600. To Apply: Applicants must send the completed application form together with the essay, official transcripts, and a letter of recommendation from a faculty. Deadline: February 15.
