Puig i Cadafalch, Josep or José Puig i Cadafalch (1867–1956). Catalan architect. He worked mostly in and around Barcelona, Spain, and was a pupil of Domènech i Montaner. His Casa Amatller, Barcelona (1898–1900), drew on German Gothic exemplars, even to the quotation of a stepped gable. Later, he paraphrased vernacular Catalan architecture for his Modernisme (see art nouveau) houses, Casa Garí, Argentona (1898), and Casa Macaya, Barcelona (1901). From c.1904 his work became more influenced by the Vienna Sezession, and the Casa Pich i Pon, Barcelona (1921), had a flavour of Sul-livan's designs in the USA. His Fábrica Casarramona (1911–12) is one of his best works. He published a comprehensive study of Catalan Romanesque art (1909–18).
