Puig, Bernardo Calvo
Puig, Bernardo Calvo , Spanish organist and composer; b. Vich, Feb. 22, 1819; d. Barcelona, 1880. He was a choirboy at Vich Cathedral, where he studied with José Galles. He succeeded his teacher as organist there, and later became its asst. maestro de capilla. After further training in Barcelona, he became organist at the church of Nuestra Señora del Pino, and later was maestro de capilla at Barcelona Cathedral. In 1853 he was made director of the Escolania de la Merced. He wrote 2 operas, zarzuelas, and many sacred works.
