nutritive ratio In animal feeding a measure of the value of a feeding ration for growth (or milk production) compared with its fattening value. It is the sum of the digestible carbohydrate, protein, and 2.3 × fat, divided by digestible protein. (Energy yield of fat is 2.3 times that of carbohydrate and protein.) Value 4–5 for growth, 7–8 for fattening.
