Sidelights

Artist and illustrator Greg Call has degrees from the Colorado Institute of Art and from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His freelance work has been sought after in a variety of industries, including publishing, video games, music, sports, and film. Both as a painter and a sculptor, Call's talent for conceptual work has provided the visual starting point for many of his clients' projects. He displays his paintings and sculptures in fine-art venues, in addition to producing commercial work and creating illustrations for a number of books.

Call has collaborated with the writing team of David Barry and Ridley Pearson to create the art for "Never Land" books such as Peter and the Starcatchers, Peter and the Shadow Thieves, and Escape from the Carnivale. These books include images of the fantastic, including flying carpets, mermaids, and Peter Pan and the Lost Boys in flight. Call's work includes color and black-and-white illustrations, and a frequent subject is the diabolical Captain Hook.

For the "Time Spies" fantasy novels by Candice Ransom, Call's artwork brings to life a group of children traveling through time with the aid of a magic spyglass. His illustrations for these books depict scenes from U.S. history, including the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the fossil-hunting Bone Wars of the late 1800s.
