1. the insertion of a tampon.

2. abnormal pressure on a part of the body. cardiac t. a build-up of fluid around the heart within the pericardium, causing compression of the heart. This results in heart failure, a drop in blood pressure, or cardiac arrest and requires drainage of the fluid.
