SIDELIGHTS: A former youth pastor who as a child spent time in eastern Europe with his missionary parents, Eric Wilson experimented with various jobs before becoming an author of novels with Christian themes. His debut work, Dark to Mortal Eyes, is a supernatural thriller. The main character, Josee Walker, is a twenty-three-year-old artist whose rich parents gave her up for adoption years before. When she travels to their Oregon home to find out why her parents abandoned her, Josee chances upon a container that holds a deadly poison which not only kills the body but also destroys a person's soul. After her discovery, Josee begins to see malevolent beings that have evil intentions toward her parents. To defeat these beings, she needs to rediscover her faith, something she abandoned as she grew to become a cynical adult.

A Publishers Weekly reviewer felt that Dark to Mortal Eyes has noticeable flaws, including stale dialogue and a predictable conclusion. However, the critic also enjoyed the "quirky twists" in the story and concluded that "Wilson's fresh voice holds promise." Other reviewers were more enthusiastic, with BooksnBytes. com contributor Harriet Klausner declaring that Wilson's fiction debut is an "intriguing complex thriller." A critic for Christian Fiction Review Online echoed the Publishers Weekly critic's assessment about the "typical Hollywood-style showdown," but still concluded that Dark to Mortal Eyes is "an impressive first novel by any measurement."
