SIDELIGHTS: In The Dorm Room Diet: The 8-Step Program for Creating a Healthy Lifestyle Plan That Really Works, college student Daphne Oz offers her fellow students a way to escape poor eating habits that dormitory living can make worse—which can in turn lead to weight gain, often as much as fifteen pounds during the freshman year alone. The daughter of a diet expert and a heart surgeon, Oz struggled with weight issues of her own through high school. “When I was accepted to college, I realized that this represented an entirely new stage in my life,” she wrote in an author interview published on her home page. “If I didn’t seize the opportunity to change now, when would I? So I began the process of changing my lifestyle, and I haven’t looked back since.” She continued: “I realized that I was not the only one interested in this stuff. I decided to put together a book so that anyone who wanted the information could get it easily.”

“This is a great book to pack between the extra-long twin sheets and study lamp,” concluded a Publishers Weekly reviewer. “Readers of all ages,” Booklist contributor Gillian Engberg declared, “may glean plenty of new facts and, perhaps most of all, encouragement” from The Dorm Room Diet.
