SIDELIGHTS: "Like Joanne Trautmann, who may have coined the phrase to describe herself when she was editing Virginia Woolf's letters, I am a 'footnote fetishist,'" Bruce Kellner once told CA. "My natural habitat is the library, but I care passionately about language and believe that scholarly writing can be as handsomely constructed as other literary forms. Craft and art are not the especial possessions of poetry and fiction. Regardless of the form, however, I believe that craft must precede art. Our greatest critics, like our greatest poets, have always known that."
