SIDELIGHTS:
With the publication of her first three books, British writer Sue Haasler has acquired a reputation as an author of romantic comedies. Time after Time, her first novel to be published in the United States, is fueled by nostalgia for the music and pop culture of the 1980s. Cass Thomson is a professional live-in curator and administrator of Coltsfoot Hall, an historic London manor house and museum. She enjoys a pleasant, uneventful life, while carrying a torch for Gideon, whom she has loved since they were teenagers. Her life becomes more complicated when she has to save Coltsfoot from conniving real estate developers; meanwhile, she chances to meet Gideon again, discovering that he has changed considerably since last they met. A Publishers Weekly reviewer called Time after Time an "an amusing romantic comedy" and added: "This featherweight, by-the-numbers effort is as ephemeral—yet curiously appealing—as the fashions it celebrates." The book is a "likable enough quick read," and the characters of Cass and Gideon are "endearing enough to make the resolution worthwhile, though the journey to their happy ending has few surprises," in the opinion of a Kirkus Reviews critic. Booklist reviewer Kristine Huntley concluded: "Filled with laugh-out-loud 1980s references, Haasler's entertaining romantic comedy will appeal to any child of that time."
