Tagliafico, (Dieudonné) Joseph

Tagliafico, (Dieudonné) Joseph, distinguished French bass-baritone; b. Toulon, Jan. 1, 1821; d. Nice, Jan. 27, 1900. He studied with Piermarini and Lablache in Paris, making his debut there in 1844 at the Théâtre-Italien. In 1847 he joined the new Royal Italian Opera company at Covent Garden in London, remaining on its roster until 1876; then was its stage manager until 1882. He appeared as a guest artist in France, Russia, and the U.S. He was best known for his French and Italian roles.
