Stenhammar, Per Ulrik
Swedish composer, father of (Karl) Wilhelm (Eugen) Stenhammar; b. Tornvalla, Feb. 20, 1828; d. Stockholm, Feb. 8, 1875. He received his primary musical education from A.F. Lindblad. Becoming interested in sacred music, he wrote choral works in Mendelssohn’s style; also many solo songs. His oratorio, Saul och David (1869), was orchestrated by his son.
