Soltys, Adam
Soltys, Adam, Polish pedagogue and composer, son of Mieczyslaw Soltys; b. Lemberg, July 4, 1890; d. there (Lwów), July 6, 1968. He studied with his father, and later with Georg Schumann in Berlin; also took courses in musicology at the Univ. of Berlin with Kretzschmar and Johannes Wolf (Ph.D., 1921). Returning to Poland, he served as director of the Lwów Cons. (1930–39) and again after World War II. His compositions include 2 syms. (1927, 1946); the symphonic poems Slowanie (1949), O pokoj (About Peace; 1953), and Z gór i dolin (From Mountains and Valleys; 1960); numerous teaching pieces for violin and for piano.
