Soldat, Marie
Soldat, Marie, Austrian violinist; b. Graz, March 25, 1863; d. there, Sept. 30, 1955. She studied in Graz and with Joachim at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik (1879–82), graduating with the Mendelssohn Prize. She made a specialty of the Brahms Violin Concerto, which she performed with great authority. In 1887 she formed in Berlin her own string quartet (all women); in 1899 she married the lawyer Roger, and settled in Vienna, where she formed a new string quartet; also continued to appear as a soloist.
