Schlesinger, Maurice (Moritz) Adolphe (baptized Mora Abraham), German music publisher, son of Adolph Martin Schlesinger; b. Berlin, Oct. 3, 1797; d. Baden-Baden, Feb. 25, 1871. He moved to Paris in 1819, and was at first engaged in book selling. In 1821 he established a music publishing business, and launched the publication of the Gazette musicale de Paris (1834–35), which merged with the Revue musicale to become the Revue et gazette musicale (1835); the latter continued to appear until 1880. He became one of the most important Paris publishers, bringing out scores by Beethoven, Donizetti, Meyerbeer, Berlioz, Liszt, Chopin, and others. In 1846 he sold the catalogue to Brandus and Dufour; later it was acquired by Joubert.
