Salazar, Manuel
Salazar, Manuel , Costa Rican tenor; b. San José, Jan. 3, 1887; d. there, Aug. 6, 1950. He was trained in Italy and N.Y. In 1913 he made his operatic debut in Vicenza as Edgardo, and then sang in various Italian opera houses. After appearing in Havana (1917), he toured North America with the San Carlo Opera Co. On Dec. 31, 1921, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Alvaro, and remained on its roster until 1923. Among his other roles were Radames, Andrea Chénier, and Canio.
