Petric, Ivo,Slovenian composer; b. Ljubljana, June 16, 1931. He received training in composition and conducting at the Ljubljana Academy of Music (1950–58). In 1962 he founded the chamber music group Ensemble Slavko Osterc for the promotion of new music. In 1970 he became ed.-in-chief of the publ, division of the Union of Slovenian Composers. He also was artistic director of the Slovenian Phil, from 1975 to 1995. In 1975 he won 1st prize in the Wieniawski Competition in Poznan for his Sonata for Solo Violin and in 1984 1st prize in the Oscar Espia Competition in Alicante, Spain, for his symphonic poem The Picture of Dorian Gray. His compositions are Romantic in their inspiration, and agreeably modernistic in technical presentation.
