Petri, Georg Gottfried
Petri, Georg Gottfried,German composer, uncle ofJohann Samuel Petri; b. Sorau, Dec. 9, 1715; d. Görlitz, July 6, 1795. He studied law in Halle. After teaching law there, he was active as a private tutor. He served as music director (1748–64) and asst. headmaster (1763–64) in Guben. From 1764 he was Kantor in Görlitz, where he also served as music director of the church of SS. Peter and Paul. He was a prolific composer, mainly of church music. Among his other works were keyboard pieces and songs.
