Paich, Marty (actually, Martin Louis)

Paich, Marty (actually, Martin Louis), arranger, composer, pianist, leader; b. Oakland, Calif., Jan. 23, 1925. He is best known for tasteful jazz-oriented arrangements in the 1950s for artists such as Mel Torme and Ella Fitzgerald on the Verve label. Later, he did arrangements for Ray Charles, Sammy Davis Jr., Lena Home, and many others. He recorded most of his LPs during the second half of the 1950s, before he turned to lucrative studio and session work, as well as television and film soundtrack work.
