Noble, Dennis (William)

Noble, Dennis (William), English baritone; b. Bristol, Sept. 25, 1899; d. Jávea, Spain, March 14, 1966. He was trained as a chorister at Bristol Cathedral. In 1924 he made his operatic debut at London’s Covent Garden as Marnilo in Rigoletto, and then sang there until 1938 and again in 1947. He also appeared with the British National Opera Co. and the Carl Rosa Opera Co. In 1931 he was soloist in the premiere of Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast in Leeds. In 1936–37 he appeared in Cleveland. In addition to his various French and Italian roles, he also sang in many contemporary British operas.
