Kleven, Arvid

Kleven, Arvid, Norwegian composer; b. Drontheim, Nov. 29, 1899; d. Oslo, Nov. 23, 1929. He studied in Oslo, Paris, and Berlin. From 1919 he played flute in the National Theater Orch. in Christiania, and in the Phil. Orch. there. His early neo-Romantic style developed along expressionist lines. Among his works are Sinfonia libera in due parte (1927), Sytnfonisk fantasi for Orch., the symphonic poems Lotusland (1922) and Skogens sovn (The Sleeping Forest), songs with orch., Violin Sonata, Cello Sonata, and piano pieces.
