Klicka, Josef

Bohemian organist, choral conductor, and composer, father of Vaclav Klicka ; b. Klattau, Dec. 15, 1855; d. there, March 28, 1937. He studied with Skuhersky in Prague, then conducted various choral societies there. From 1906 to 1920 he was inspector of music in Bohemia. He was appointed prof, of organ at the Prague Cons, in 1885 and taught until his retirement in 1924. He wrote an opera, Spanila mylnafka (Die Schöne Müllerin; Prague, 1886), 9 masses, 2 oratorios, chamber works, and many organ pieces.
