Klicka, Vaclav

Klicka, Vaclav, Czech harpist, teacher, and composer, son of Josef Klicka ; b. Prague, Aug. 1, 1882; d. there, May 22, 1953. He studied harp with Hanus Trnecek and theory and composition with Karel Knittl and Karel Stecker at the Prague Cons. After playing in the Pilsen theater orch. (1903–10), he made tours of Europe as a soloist with orchs. and as a recitalist. From 1922 until the Nazi occupation of his homeland he was a prof, of harp at the Prague Cons. Following the liberation of his country in 1945, he resumed his activities. He composed much harp music and also prepared various arrangements for the harp.
