Klengel, Paul
German conductor and composer, brother of Julius Klengel ; b. Leipzig, May 13, 1854; d. there, April 24, 1935. He studied at the Leipzig Cons. and at the Univ. of Leipzig (Ph.D., 1876, with the diss. Zur Ästhetik der Tonkunst). From 1881 to 1886 he conducted the Leipzig Euterpe Concerts, and from 1888 to 1893 he was 2nd court conductor in Stuttgart. From 1898 to 1902 he conducted German choral societies in N.Y. He then returned to Leipzig, where he conducted the Arion Soc. (from 1902) and also taught at the Leipzig Cons. He wrote numerous works for violin, songs, and arrangements.
