Kleinknecht, Johann Wolfgang

Kleinknecht, Johann Wolfgang, German violinist and composer, brother of Jakob Friedrich Kleinknecht andJohann Stephan Kleinknecht; b. Ulm, April 17, 1715; d. Ansbach, Feb. 20, 1786. He studied with his father and at the Ulm Gymnasium. In 1733 he became a member of the Stuttgart court chapel, where he had violin lessons with Brescianello. In subsequent years, he appeared as a soloist at various German courts until entering the service of the courts in Eisenach and Bayreuth. From 1738 to 1769 he was director of the music establishment at the Bayreuth court, continuing in its service when he moved to Ansbach in the latter year. Among his works were a number of sonatas.
