Kamionsky, Oscar (Isaievich)
Kamionsky, Oscar (Isaievich), Russian baritone; b. Kiev, 1869; d. Yalta, Aug. 15, 1917. He studied with Everard in St. Petersburg and Rossi in Naples, making his debut in Naples in 1891. He sang in Kharkov (1893-94; 1898-99), Kiev (1894–95), and Tiflis (1896-98; 1899-1901); also appeared in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and other cities as a guest artist. He later sang in Moscow at the Zimin Theater (1905-08; 1913-14), retiring from the stage in 1915. As a singer, he followed the precepts of the Italian school of bel canto. He was famous for his roles as Valentin in Faust, Rigoletto, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, and other lyrico-dramatic parts.
