Kalkbrenner, Friedrich (Wilhelm)
Kalkbrenner, Friedrich (Wilhelm) (b nr. Kassel, 1785; d Enghien-les-Bains, 1849). Fr. pianist, teacher, and composer of Ger. extraction. Lived in London 1814–23. Joined pf.-making firm of Pleyel in Paris, 1824, establishing himself as renowned teacher. Chopin was his friend and dedicated his E minor pf. conc. to him. Wrote pf. method. Comp. 4 pf. concs., 13 pf. sonatas, and much chamber mus.
