Grisi, Giuditta

Grisi, Giuditta, Italian mezzo-soprano, sister of Giulia Grisi; b. Milan, July 28, 1805; d. Robecco d’Oglio, near Cremona, May 1, 1840. She studied at the Milan Cons., making her first appearance in Vienna in 1826. Afterward she sang with success in Italy and in Paris at the Théâtre-Italien under Rossini’s management, retiring in 1838, after her marriage to Count Barni. Bellini wrote for her the part of Romeo in I Capuleti ed i Montecchi (Venice, March 11, 1830); her sister sang Juliet.
