Gregora, František
Gregora, František, Bohemian double bass player, choral conductor, teacher, and composer; b. Netolice, Jan. 9, 1819; d. Pisek, Jan. 27, 1887. He went to Vienna to study with Josef Dreschsler, and then entered the Cons, to study composition (with Gottfried Preyer) and double bass. From 1848 he pursued his career in Bohemia. He composed 17 double bass concertos and many other works for his instrument. Among his other works were much sacred music, part songs, and solo songs. He also publ. a valuable manual on harmony (Prague, 1876).
