Godefroid, (Dieudonné Joseph Guillaume) Félix

Godefroid, (Dieudonné Joseph Guillaume) Félix, Belgian harpist and composer; b. Namur, July 24, 1818; d. Villers-sur-Mer, Calvados, July 12, 1897. He studied piano and solfege at his father’s music school in Boulogne. After training in harp with Nadermann at the Paris Cons. (2nd prix, 1835), he completed his studies with Labarre and Parish-Alvars. He gained prominence as a harp virtuoso via tours of Germany, Spain, England, Holland, and other nations. He wrote much music for harp and a method, Mes exercices. He also composed an opera, La harpe d’or (Paris, 1858).
