Fleta, Miguel

Fleta, Miguel, Spanish tenor, father of Pierre Fleta; b. Albalate, Dec. 28, 1893; d. La Coruna, May 30, 1938. He studied at the Barcelona and Madrid conservatories; also took vocal lessons in Italy with Louisa Pierrick, who became his wife. He made his debut in Trieste on Nov. 14, 1919 as Paolo in Zandonai’s Francesca da Rimini. After several busy tours in Europe, Mexico, and South America, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. on Nov. 8, 1923, as Cavaradossi; remained on its roster until 1925. From 1923 to 1926 he sang at La Scala in Milan, where he created the role of Prince Calaf in Turandot (April 25, 1926). In 1926 he returned to Spain.
