Elisabetta, Regina d'Inghilterra (Elizabeth, Queen of England). Opera in 2 acts by Rossini to lib. by Giovanni Schmidt, after C. Federici's play (1814) based on Sophia Lee's novel The Recess (1783–5). Prod. Naples 1815; London 1818. First opera in which Rossini provided orch. acc. for all the recitatives. Ov. is same as for Aureliano in Palmira and Il barbiere di Siviglia. Comp. for Isabella Colbran, whom Rossini later married.
