Deller, Florian Johann , Austrian violinist and composer; b. Dorsendorf (baptized), May 2, 1729; d. Munich, April 19, 1773. He became a ripieno violinist in the Stuttgart Hofkapelle in 1751, and from 1756 he studied counterpoint and composition with Jommelli. Between 1761 and 1767 he composed 6 ballets for the court, thereby winning notable distinction. His most famous ballet was Orfeo ed Euridice (1763). In 1771 he went to Vienna, and shortly afterward settled in Munich. Among his other WORKS were several comic opéras, 5 syms., 2 flute concertos (not extant), and 6 sonatas for 2 Violins, Cello, and Harpsichord.
