Clercx, Suzanne

Clercx, Suzanne, Belgian musicologist; b. Hou–deng–Aimeries, June 7, 1910; d. Liège, Sept. 27, 1985. She studied at the Univ. of Liège, and also took courses in musicology with Charles van den Borren, obtaining her Ph.D. in 1939 with the diss. Essai sur l’évolution de la musique instrumentale dans les Pays–Bas au XVIII siècle. She was then a librarian at the Royal Cons, in Brussels (1941–49). In 1945 she was appointed lecturer at the Univ. of Liège. She became a prof, in 1966, where she was active until 1975; in 1980 she was made prof, emeritus. In 1952 she was made a corresponding member of the American Musicological Soc.
