Badea, Christian, Romanian-born American conductor; b. Bucharest, Dec. 10, 1947. He studied violin and composition at the Bucharest Cons.; subsequently took courses in Brussels, in Salzburg, and at the Juilliard School in N.Y. He conducted at the Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds in Charleston, S.C., and Spoleto, Italy; served as music director of the Savannah (Ga.) Sym. Orch. (1977–84) and the Columbus (Ohio) Sym. Orch. (1983–91).
