Bachrich, Sigmund (real name, Sigismund)
Bachrich, Sigmund (real name, Sigismund), Hungarian violist and composer; b. Zsam-bokreth, Jan. 23, 1841; d. Vienna, July 16, 1913. He studied violin in Vienna; spent several years in Paris, where he was viola player with the Hellmesberger and Rosé quartets. From 1869 to 1899 he was a member of the viola section in the Vienna Phil. He wrote several operas, among them Muzzedin (1883), Heini von Steier (1884), and Der Fuchs-Major (1889), as well as a ballet, Sakuntala. His memoirs were publ. posthumously under the title Aus verklungenen Zeiten (Vienna, 1914). In his professional activities he adopted Sigmund as his first name.
