Auf schnaiter, Benedict Anton

Auf schnaiter, Benedict Anton, Austrian composer; b. Kitzbühel (baptized), Feb. 21, 1665; d. Passau (buried), Jan. 24, 1742. He went to Vienna, where he received his education. In 1705 he was named cathedral and court Kapellmeister in Passau by the prince archbishop, where he served for the rest of his life. Aufschnaiter composed a large body of music, much of it for the church. He also publ. a fine vol. of 6 orch. serenades or suites as Concors discordia (Nuremberg, 1695), which reveal his mastery of the French and Italian styles of instrumental writing.
