Taxi to the Dark Side ★★★½ 2007 (R)

Grim, disturbing documentary about government-sanctioned torture in the war on terror. The film centers around the brutal treatment and murder of a taxi driver named Dilawar in Afghanistan while in American custody, but does not limit itself to the one incident. Instead, it uses that as a foundation for the examination of U.S. torture policies and the changing attitudes towards torture since 9/11. Director Gibney occasionally indulges in some gimmickry but overall presents a doggedly investigated film that asks hard questions and doesn't back down from brutal answers, including those provided through interviews with the men who killed Dilawar. 106m/C DVD .
