Classic comedy about an uptight British butler who is “won” by a barbarous American rancher in a poker game. Laughton as the nonplussed manservant is hilarious; supporting cast excellent. Third and far superior filming of Harry Leon Wilson story. One of the alltime great comedies, the film was remade musically with Bob Hope and Lucille Ball as “Fancy Pants” (1950). 90m/B VHS . Charles Laughton, Mary Boland, Charlie Ruggles, Zasu Pitts, Roland Young, Leila Hyams, James Burke, Maude Eburne; D: Leo McCarey; W: Walter DeLeon; M: Ralph Rainger. N.Y.
