This Film Is Not Yet Rated ★★ 2006

Veteran filmmaker Kirby Dick tackles the secrecy surrounding the MPAA ratings board, with Dick out to illustrate their nonsensical approach to the process. Created in 1968, its anonymous panel (which Dick aims to identify) is frequently accused of being lenient towards violence and uptight about sex. Filmmakers generally have no way of knowing just what the board objects to since they don't offer specific criticism because that would be censorship. Kirby uses some question able methods to get board members on camera and he has no particular suggestions about reform, but if you're interested in filmmaking, the documentary and its revealing interviews makes for compelling viewing. 97m/C DVD . USD: Kirby Dick; C: Shana Hagan, Kirsten Johnson, Amy Vincent.
