Charlie Mackenzie (Spelling) wants to keep her executive job, but new boss Ed Walcott (Germann) insists on family values and mistakenly believes Charlie is married. When she is forced to invite Ed and his wife (Vernon) to dinner, Charlie borrows a house and child (Breslin) from a friend and hires actor Buck (Bridges) to play her husband. Their ruse works for the evening, but Charlie is horrified to learn that the Walcotts are planning to rent the house next door.
