Van Gennip, Yvonne
Dutch speedskater. Born in the Netherlands.
Won three Olympic gold medals in Calgary: in the 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 meters (1988).
In Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Yvonne Van Gennip put a screeching, single-handed halt to East Germany's domination over speedskating. Van Gennip took three gold medals: in the 1,500 meters over Karin Kania-Enke , who was considered unbeatable; in the 3,000 meters, ahead of Andrea Ehrig and Gabi Schönbrunn Zange ; and in the 5,000 meters, once again in front of Ehrig and Zange.
