Stephanie of Belgium (1864–1945)

Belgian princess. Name variations: Stephanie Saxe-Coburg. Born on May 21, 1864; died in 1945; daughter of Leopold II, king of the Belgians (r. 1865–1909), and Maria Henrietta of Austria (1836–1902); married Rudolf (1858–1889), crown prince of Austria and Hungary, on May 10, 1881; married Elemer, prince Lonyai de Nagy, on March 22, 1900; children: (first marriage) Elizabeth von Habsburg (1883–1963).

Stephanie of Belgium was born in 1864, the daughter of Leopold II, king of the Belgians, and Maria Henrietta of Austria . She married Rudolf, crown prince of Austria and Hungary, in 1881. In 1889, Rudolf died at Mayerling along with his mistress Marie Vetsera as the result of a suicide pact. Stephanie's memoir, I Was to Be an Empress, was published in 1937.
