Hiltrude of Liessies (d. late 700s)

Saint. Died in the late 700s; daughter of a Poitevin noble from Hainaut.

Resolved to remain a virgin, Hiltrude of Liessies fled her father's house when presented with a suitor and only returned when she learned that the suitor had married her sister. Soon after, the bishop of Cambrai officiated at the ceremony where Hiltrude took the veil; she then lived in a cell attached to the church of Liessies as a recluse until her death.
