Dixie, Lady Florence (1857–1905)
English explorer and writer. Born in 1857; died in 1905; daughter of the Marquis of Queensberry; married Sir Alexander Dixie, in 1875.
Lady Florence Dixie explored Patagonia (1878–79), served as a war correspondent for the London Morning Post in the Boer War (1880–81), and was instrumental in securing the liberty of Cetawayo, king of Zululand. In later years, she was a champion of women's rights. Her books include: Across Patagonia, A Defense of Zululand and its King, and The Child Hunters of Patagonia.
